“If you wait until you have enough money to decorate and make your home your own, it will never happen. If you wait until you can afford to buy everything new, you are missing the point. It is the old, the new, the hand-me-down, the collected, the worn but loved things in your home that make it your own.” – Stacy Risenmay
Whether you agree with me on this or not, organizing the things we have at home would take a lot of our time, especially when we have so little time for it. Perhaps, some of us are busy with their work, and some with their school or business. We all are busy with our daily lives. However, this may not be a good and acceptable reason as to why we should not organize our home. Keep in mind that our home is a reflection of who and what we are. If we have a messy home, then we probably live a messy and confused life. It does not matter if you are living in South Park District or any real estate property in the Philippines, there is no reason for you not to organize your things at home.
So to give you an idea here’s some quick and easy guide on how you can organize your home even if you have so little time for it.
If you do not want to see your home with so many clothes on the floor, it is best for you to put all your clothes in its proper place ever after you use it. If you are not mindful of where you put your clothes, this will only leave you a pile of clothes to pick up. Also, having your clothes on the floor can also cause accidents. That is why it is important for you to pick them up and place them in their proper places. If your clothes are dirty, then you have to put them in the laundry area, and if it is not, put them in your closet.
This is also one secret to a neat and clean home. It is a must for you to clear your bed. Make sure to keep all your gadgets away from your bed, especially when you are about to sleep. You do not want to sleep with all of your gadgets around you, right? You have to make at least an effort to make your bed before you go to sleep, and every time you wake up. This is to ensure that you will not have a hard time looking at your messy bedroom. Also, keep in mind that as much as your home should be neat, your bedroom should also be clean.
If you have an empty area at home, then you might want to make it useful. Perhaps, you can make it as your storage area where you can put your bags, boxes, coats, umbrellas, etc. This is important not only to spruce up the look, but it also can make your home less prone to disarray. Also, you can put a basket where you can have it as your storage of your things, be it accessories for this summer or any tools or appliances you have for you home. Be creative enough when thinking about what you can do to make your home look neat and clean.
This is one of the things you should do especially when you do not have much time doing the laundry at home. If you think that you have already worn many clothes, then it is best for you if you would wash them immediately. This is to make sure that you will not have to wash a pile of dirty clothes all day during the weekends.
Whether you agree with me on this or not, one of the most visible parts of your home is your entry way. That means you need to make sure that your entryway clean and way far from being messy. Moreover, you can organize a spot where you can put your umbrellas, keys, hats, important mail, etc. This will also ensure that you will have a clean and neat entry way at home.
These tips mentioned above may be simple, but it gives you a lot of advantages when you follow these things. Whatever you want to do, at the end of the day, you are still going to make sure that your home is clean and healthy enough to live in.
Organizing is painfully annoying task, unless you are of the few people who constantly like to keep everything under control. But anyone who struggles with this problem knows that this is not even the hardest part. Staying organized after rearranging your home proves to be the real problem.
Clutter is not only unpleasant to look at. Eventually, it can have a considerable impact on your mental state. Getting organized takes time. Staying organized takes persistency and discipline. No storage solution will be able to keep the clutter, if you don’t find the real reason behind your chaotic nature. You need to get to the bottom of the issue and find out what is causing it. Experts identify five main culprits of your disorganization.
It is caused by life event that disrupt your organizational routine. Even if you want, you don’t always have control over the things. Situational disorganization can be a result of various things. You might be too busy at the office or experiencing emergencies. For instance, tough moments such as a personal loss or a hard divorce or break –up. Even living with a messy person can influence your living space. The moment you recognize the reason that contributes to the disorganization, you will be able to effectively deal with it. To do this you need to carefully examine your environment.
In this case, the disorganization is a result of bad habits that you developed over the years. Habitual disorganization manifests in different type of behaviour. There are different personality types: stackers, stashers, pilers, hiders, spreaders and suffers. Do you recognize yourself in some of these stereotypes? The answer is probably yes. Most of us tend to indulge some of these habits from time to time. The real problem is when they become part of our personality. This doesn’t mean that you will stay disorganized for the rest of your life. You created your own state of chaos and you are the only one who can fix it. These organizing sins hamper your efforts. You should also stray from procrastination and over – scheduling. They are your worst enemy.
The environment at your home while growing up has huge impact on your organizing habits. Even if your parents were organizing freaks, there is no guarantee that you will not turn into slop. Children either accept or rebel against the existing order. It’s not that you hate organization. You associate it with the rules your parents imposed. On the other hand, if you grew up in chaos, there is a huge chance that you adopted this type of living. No matter what your background is you can break free from your predispositions.
Apart from your family, you are inevitably influenced by your social environment. The modern culture stimulates the accumulation for many possessions. Having so many items make it difficult to maintain them. If you have problems keeping up with all your possessions, you might consider de – cluttering to provide more storage space for your new items. Get rid of the things that you don’t use. You can sell, donate them or hire a storage facility.
Despite your best intentions, sometimes you simply fail. In some instances, disorganisation is an actual condition. If you actually really tried and you didn’t succeed, you might fall in this category. There are sites that can offer you help.
You need to consciously focus on the problem. Observe your behaviour and attitude in different situations. When you monitor your actions you will be able to avoid slip –ups. Otherwise as the time passes you will return to your old habits.

Have you ever wondered why no matter what you do, you can’t preserve your home tidy for more than a week? From an early age we are told that being organized is the key to success. We were tought at school and at home that being messy will inevitably lead us to failure. There is another common conception that the chaos is related to a higher creativity level. Is there any truth in this urban legend? If we take great minds like Albert Einstein, Mark Twain or even Steve Jobs we can see a certain correlation. This doesn’t mean that living in a messy apartment will suddenly make you more creative. Plus, you should not blame your bad habits to artistic inclinations because this is not always the case. One thing remains true, though – you will definitely benefit from a clean and tidy home.
The negative effect of the clutter is undeniable not only for your living space but also for your emotional state. The clutter creates noise that leads to discomfort. As a result, you are not able to focus in the presence of a messy room. Furthermore, it can make you feel guilty. At some point you become haunted by the huge pile of laundry or dirty dishes in the sink.
The chaos may be a sign of deeper issues. In some instances the clutter is perceived as a shield from the hard cold world. Possessing more, makes you feel safer and less lonely. The roots of your messy habits can also be traced back to you childhood. Usually people think that if you are raised by organized parents you would develop the same values. That is not entirely true. Sometimes parents discourage their children by pinpointing their “bad” traits, constantly insisting on cleaning their room.
Being disorganized may be due to several factors. Consider the culture you are living in. Admit it or not, the modern society is concerned with the collection and possession of items. That is why some individuals find it hard to let go of their objects and are inclined to retain things whether they need them or don’t. With this is mind, think about the clutter that you have accumulated over the years and that stops you from having an organized home. It is far more difficult to take care of many items, instead of just a having a bunch of essentials.
The emotional attachment also plays an important role. If you associate a certain item with a pleasant experience or a close person that is not with you anymore you will find it hard to put it away. At some point the clutter become a container for memories. The reason is that you project your internal feelings on an object, connecting the tangible with intangible. In this case individuals don’t recognize the fact that they are the ones who hold the experience not the material.
Fixing the outside space will be futile if you don’t resolve the inward problems. Discover the reasons behind your unhealthy tendencies. In essence, you need to find your inner motivation. Find out what it means to you an organized home. For instance, you want to clean up your kitchen because you are a passionate cooker. Starting is the hardest part of the process, so you need to find some good reasons for cleaning. Different people have different ways of dealing with their tasks. Some individuals prefer to tackle the most difficult job first. Others get inspired when they see instant results, thus they will prefer to start with the easy activities. Find your own style and work according to it.
Deadlines are the next best way to motivate yourself. Create a list with all the bits you want to complete. Give yourself enough time. This means that it shouldn’t be too short because you will not have a chance to finish it and you will feel discouraged. Don’t stretch it in time too. You will procrastinate until the last moment. When you see your task completed one by one you will feel more stimulated to do more.
Music works on multiple levels. It gives rythym to your cleaning process and it inspires you. Ideally it is best to play something energetic that will get you going, but you can pick whatever works for you. Create a “cleaning” playlist with a couple of your favorite songs.
This is a crucial step, especially for people who find it hard to let go of their possessions. Get a friend or involve your family members in the home cleaning. They will give you a clear opinion and help you decide what you really need and what has to go. Examine all your possessions and divide them in different categories. Have a separate box for the things you will keep, throw away, donate or sell. Don’t get tempted to have a “maybe” box. You need to act straightforwardly.
Design your own schedule according to your personal routine. Instead of leaving the job for the weekend, spare 15 to 30 minutes a day. If you postpone it, you run the risk to deal with enormous amount of tasks and at the end you will feel overwhelmed and exhausted.
No matter how severe is the situation; there is always a silver lining. You need to be convinced that you can manage the issue. But it will take time and we are not talking only about the house cleaning. You need to develop a few useful habits. Start by leaving the room the way you found it. This means that whenever you use a certain item, you should return it back to its original place. Think about clever storage solutions that will help you in your cleaning agenda.
Take control over the chaos and reclaim your living space, by getting rid of the clutter and organizing your home. However, if you are aiming towards lasting results you need to first clear your head and then proceed with the house cleaning.

As you are well aware, you can buy nearly all types ready-to- assemble storage units. Most of them are either made from wood and plastic, both of which perform a decent job in protecting stored items. However, if you want to ensure that you get the best storage unit where you can safely store all sorts of stuff and at the same time will fit your space requirement, then you might want to try your hands on steel building kits.
Basically, steel building kits are a fully pre-engineered building system designed with ease of installation in mind. They come with all the components necessary for building structures that include wall panels, base connectors, beams and nuts and bolts.
Because all of the parts are made in a controlled manufacturing environment, the use of steel building kits require minimal construction on site where the structure will be built – often limited to the creation of the concrete foundation.
Steel building kits are widely popular not only because they are easy to transport and install, but also because they provide great savings for the long term. They also make for great storage solutions for a wide variety of items for several good reasons.
Steel building kits are available in a wide range of sizes and can also be designed according to certain specifications, thereby allowing you to pick a unit based on the available floor space. And with their high strength to weight ratio, they are capable of supporting items of different scale without giving in to the heavy weight. Hence, whether you are looking to store your garden tools or large machinery for agricultural use, you can definitely find a steel building kit that corresponds to your needs.
Unexpected occurrence of typhoons, fire and earthquakes as well as termite attack are threats to valuable items. So to avoid the risk of exposing your stuff against such elements, it is necessary that you provide them with proper shelter.
Steel building kits provide a solution to such need as they are capable of withstanding damaging elements that no other type of building materials can endure. They are impervious to water, snow, and fire and can also withstand earthquakes and high winds. In addition, they are not prone to termite, ant and rodent infestation as the structures are properly sealed. Thus, when you build a storage unit out of a steel building kit, you will have the peace of mind knowing that all your items are protected against different elements.
Steel building kits make the best storage solutions especially for agricultural products like vegetable, grains and livestock. This is because they can be easily outfitted with ventilation and insulation systems necessary to preserve the integrity of such goods. Likewise, it is possible to have them integrated with accessories, especially shelves, panels, compartments and cabinets, making it easier to sort and purge items during inventory.
One of the most pressing issues in today’s radically changing work environment is managing and storing information. The trend towards smaller personal work spaces or home offices adopted by majority of small businesses in the US creates the problem of finding more efficient ways of filing and storing. For most home offices whose every square inch of space is precious, de-cluttering your office from files, supplies, resource materials and piles of paper is of prime importance.
Although piles on your work area remind you that you are still working even at the comforts of your home, a desk overrun by these could be nerve-racking. Studies show that cluttered office spaces causes stress and should be immediately eliminated. These visual noises stifle and get in the way of productive thought, and may even cause disharmony and argument over misplaced important documents.
The uptake in technological advancements introduced digital alternatives to paper clutter. Documents can now be scanned, stored in electronic format in personal computers, laptops and removable disks and drives, sent and received through the Internet. However, those documents that are most important and are used on a daily basis should be arranged and stored in another location.
This is where file cabinets come in. The need for file and paperwork organization has made file cabinets staple to small and enterprise-sized businesses alike. Filing cabinets come in two types—lateral and vertical—and all types of materials. Whichever you prefer and purchase should depend largely on your office setup.
Here are three important things to consider when organizing your filing cabinet:
It is important to know the measurement of the depth and width of your filing cabinet to see what will accommodate your paperwork—letter size or legal size documents. Drawer weight should also be considered because the amount of documents to be stored should not go beyond the maximum weight that can be taken by each drawer.
Lateral filing cabinets can accommodate both letter size and legal documents arranged horizontally and have a storage capacity more than vertical file cabinets. Traditional vertical cabinets on the other hand are designed to store letter sized papers arranged from front to the back.
Most home offices have limited floor space. Lateral filing cabinets have wider drawers than vertical ones. Although these allow easy view and inventory of the entire contents of the drawer, they take up significantly more floor space. Vertical filing cabinets meanwhile save up a lot of floor space as these are tall and narrow cabinets that are usually placed against the wall.
A well planned filing system significantly contributes to the efficiency of having a filing cabinet in your home office. Your record-keeping system should begin with an inventory of your documents to be followed by inspecting and marking your files, doing a follow-up and cross-reference, sorting and filing your papers.
Filing methods, which have individual advantages and disadvantages, include: alphabetical, numeric, geographic, subject and chronological.
Generally, when you are moving to a smaller apartment you face storage problems. Chances are high that you might like the apartment except for one thing a 2×4 closet that can’t even fit all your clothes or no closet at all. Unlike a house, small apartments do not have a basement, garage or any other storage solution. No matter how many clothes you donate and sell on eBay or in a car boot sale, you are still left with the stack of clothes which have no place to go.
A household storage solution is really required if you know you are not going to stop buying clothes every month. Here are some handyman and DIY solutions for storing your clothes.
You can consider storing your clothes in the space behind your bed. You can arrange your clothes beautifully over rods studded in to the walls. You can even install hanging closet organizer, which are really good for stacking clothes or even shoes. You can even hide it using colorful curtains.
Get thick chain with slightly bigger holes to hold the weight of your clothes. Simply find studs on the ceiling and fix hooks which can support the chain to hang on them. Now just slide your hangers through the holes of chains and find your clothes hanging there. You can twist and turn this idea and alter it as per your creativity. To increase the capacity you can give a ladder type look to the chains. This will make it look more natural, suspended look that is chain free.
For this you need couple of plumbing pipes, elbows to hold them and flanges. Get all these things together. Find studs on the wall and screw the flanges. Fix elbows and tighten pipes on them. Cut the length of the pipes as per your need. Let the pipes protrude out of the wall and then connect it with the other protruding pipe with the third pipe in between them using elbows. Make sure you use good number of screws to anchor the pipes so that you get a sturdy storage option. Hurray! Now hang your clothes using hangers.
You can use old foldable ladders for stacking your clothes. Open the ladder and place boards over the steps, and cheers! You have a new storing rack ready. Paint it with your favorite colors and place it at a secluded corner.
The easiest and most sorted option is to have a rolling storage at your new apartment. You can even try making them on your own, for instance you can make a rolling storage bench. For this you need to:
Now store your winter clothes or something which you do not need in coming time. Make as many as you want and keep storing.
It is accepted that you are not in a mood to buy a new piece of furniture. But Armories can be saviors if you do not have the closets. You may even consider cabinets and consoles. You must try to make maximum out of the storage options in these assets.
You can always get readymade storage components in the market. Get them for half the price and install them as per the instructions. They are reasonable, functional and equivalent to high end closet.
Test your carpentry skill! First you need to consider things you’ll store in the closet. Also there are few more things that you need to consider like:
Then choose a relevant or a standard design for a closet. Keep the points mentioned above in mind and make all measurements. Draw it down, break down the closets into zones and then add measurements for it. You would need to buy fiberboard shelving with finished edge, 12”to 16” in width, MDF boards in 16 foot length,1*2 and1*4.
You would need wood glue, 1.75” to 1” brad nails, Spackle sand paper, caulk, primer and paint. Not to forget adjustable closet rods and metal hooks as per your needs. Get ready with your basic carpentry tools, measuring tools, brad nailer, chop saw, 4’ and 12” levels, skill saw and start with step one:
So you have it all, try these storage ideas. Other than the storage of your clothes these tips can be tried for other household storage solutions, for example rolling storage can be used for many other household things like DVD, magazines, toys, shoes and other obsoletes.
The unstable economy has made many homeowners and renters think more closely about their mortgage and rental expenses. Many people, whether by choice or out of necessity, are downsizing their life and embracing life in a smaller home or apartment.
Small spaces definitely pose challenges, especially when it comes to furniture and decorating, but many renters and owners of tiny spaces find this lifestyle liberating and cozy. Many say they would never go back to living in a big home or apartment.
Here are some unique decorating ideas for how to make the most of life in a small home.
If you live in a super-tiny apartment with very little square footage, it is almost a necessity to find decor and furniture that serves double duty. Inexpensive and easy to assemble, futons are a great choice for those with a small budget or a tiny space. With the flip of a switch or button, a futon can transform from a couch to a bed in seconds.
You and your guests will have a comfortable place to get together, and at night you can quickly convert your futon into a bed. Some futon mattresses can be uncomfortable, so having an extra microfiber or memory foam mattress stashed in the corner is a great idea. Futons look great in any contemporary-styled home.
Foldaway beds and convertible ottomans are other great multifunction furniture pieces to have in a small space. A large, convertible covered ottoman can easily serve as a coffee table and a foot rest by day. At night, lift off the cover and fold out your very own comfortable twin bed.
Convertible ottomans often feature cushioned mattresses and lots of support, which makes them just as supportive as a regular bed. Sofa beds are also a great choice for small spaces. Many sofa beds now come with deluxe airbed systems, ensuring you will sleep like a baby every night.
One of the best, little-known designer secrets for creating an open, airy room is to add oval, square or round wall mirrors in your home. Aside from being functional, wall mirrors reflect the available light within your home. They create the illusion of taller ceilings and having more space. Wall mirrors are a great optical illusion, and they look handsome and sophisticated when blended in with virtually any type of decor.
Whether you live in a large family house or a more compact studio apartment, having a declutter every now and again can really help you keep on top of your belongings. And it is about more than just following the latest minimalist interior design trends, a good declutter can help you and your home in other ways too.
You might not consider yourself a hoarder as such, but it is amazing how quickly you can accumulate things. From old folders and workbooks left over from school or college, those DVDs and video games that do not seem to be watched or played anymore and if you have kids then you are likely to have a huge amount of toys, clothes and baby equipment lying around too. Taking the plunge and ruthlessly going through all your clutter will soon sort things out and you’ll be amazed at how quickly you free some much needed space and make your spare rooms usable again.
Do not assume you have to throw everything away either, instead make three different piles – one for the rubbish or recycling, one for charity and one for items that you can sell. Why not make some money from the things you no longer use? From old mobile phones and computer equipment to DVDs and music CDs, sell items you don’t need and you could have a little extra spending money as well as some extra space.
It may sound ridiculous but a good clear out at home can really help to give your mind some clarity too. Whether you are holding on to old memories or simply find it hard to live around the mess, a good declutter can make you feel like a new person. There is something about saying goodbye to old, unused items that really takes a weight off your shoulders and makes you feel lighter, therefore a decluttered home creates a clearer soul.
There are many studies that prove that a clear and tidy work space makes for a more efficient worker and this reasoning is relevant in your home too. Having all your space and belongings organised, accessible and taking up less space means your home life is more likely to run smoothly. Whether that is just being able to find the kids hats and gloves before the school run or just having an organised space to pay the bills, a decluttered home is a more efficient and productive one.
We all have items that could probably be used again but might not be sell-able and if that is the case at your house then consider passing things on to charity. Items such as furniture or working appliances could be given to charity shops and sold on to benefit others. Not only will you free up the space in your home but you will get joy from knowing you are helping others as well as giving your unwanted items a second lease of life.
As we witness this past year flying right by, unsure what happened to most of it, reality sets in that the holiday season is quickly approaching. It seems like we just took down our decorations from last year. I realize our house waits until the thaw to take the outdoors décor down, but still…already?
Well, after double-checking the calendar to make sure…yes, already. We can either sit, wondering what happened to the majority of 2012, or we can accept the fact that it’s nearly gone. But, it really isn’t completely gone yet. In fact, the best is yet to come. If you like the holidays, that is. And, I’m assuming you do, since you are reading an article about the holidays.
So, how can you start preparing now, in order to relieve some of the stress that is associated with the hustle and bustle of the holidays? Read on, because I am going to share some tips.
A little extra cleaning before you even get the decorations out will help ease you into the transition of hosting parties, baking holiday goodies, and trimming the tree. Instead of worrying about cobwebs and stains in the carpet as guests are about to arrive, you should do most of the heavy duty cleaning now.
This is true for both indoors and out. If you have a lot of company stopping by, or extra deliveries for the season, a little TLC on the outside would be appreciated by all. Sweep away all the excess leaves, wash down the decks, and put away all the toys.
Inside, have the carpets, upholstery, and window treatments cleaned. Also, take a look at how you can ‘make room’, especially in the cupboards and freezer. If you host parties, you are well aware of the need for extra space needed for things such as holiday dishes, foods bought or prepared ahead of time, and last minute gifts from others.
We all have issues within our homes that could stand a little extra care or tweaking. When you are cleaning thoroughly look for things that might prove to be a nuisance when people are over for family gatherings or parties.
This could be a leaky faucet, crooked cupboard door, or a broken toilet handle. Fix them now, so you don’t have to worry about it when it really gets hectic for you.
Another thing we do around our house is change light bulbs ahead of time. You will know if a bulb hasn’t been changed in a while. If it hasn’t, change it out now, rather than having the light burn out on a guest in the bathroom on the night of the party.
Both inside and outside might have a few areas that could use a paint touch up. If you have the paint on hand from when you first painted, it makes it easier. But, areas that you will want to check are the following:
Of course, I am not suggesting you do a complete painting project during this time…unless, you have the time and it needs it. However, a nice pop of color on the front door or the shutters might give your exterior a great new appearance.
We like to take advantage of a nice day early on to hang all our lights outside. It’s time consuming, and often requires bare hands to get them all connected. So, I prefer to work on a day where my hands won’t go numb. This doesn’t mean we turn them on in October or even before Thanksgiving…but, they are ready to be turned on, when it’s time.
Inside, we start decorating a minimum of a week ahead of when we want it done…minimum. This is for two reasons. First, it allows time for running to the store to replace items that might need replacing. And second, I’m never satisfied when it’s first put out. I adjust, and adjust…and sometimes adjust a third time before it feels right, over the next week or two.
Make sure you have enough serving dishes and utensils ahead of time to know if you have enough, or that they are not chipped or damaged. This is especially true for anything that plugs in such as warmers, crock pots, or coffee and espresso makers.
If you are going to use them, clean them ahead of time as well, to save time on the day of the gathering.
Hosting a party requires a little planning. The more you can do ahead of time, the more stress you can take off your shoulders. Plan the menu, clip coupons, and look for sales on non-perishable products. This will save you both time and money.
If there is anything on the menu that you can prepare ahead of time and store in the freezer, you might want to consider that as well. Just make sure to take it out of the freezer early enough to thaw naturally.
So, there you have it. Six tips in how preparing your home ahead of time for the holidays can help reduce some of the stress that the holiday season brings with it.
A neat and tidy office not only looks nice but also increases the work space as well as the overall productivity. Here are some of the handy tips to de-clutter and organize your office.
Remove all the unnecessary items from your work space. Sort out the papers and files and divide them into two categories:
Arrange for a trash bag and throw away all the items that you do not require any more. This will help you store your necessary papers and files. This will also make your office look organized and de-cluttered.
Once you sort out the papers, start organizing and filing them. Put the papers into colored files and label them so as to be easily identified during emergency. However, make sure that the labeling is bold, clear and readable. Then put the files in the cabinet. Be sure that you do not put any paper in the cabinet which is not so necessary or important.
Take a look at the bookshelves in your office. You may find a number of books which are not important or which you do not require any more. Discard the unnecessary ones and make more space for the ones that are important. You can give the books to a charity or local library, or sell them online.
There are many wires that run through your office space. One connect monitor with the CPU, one connect CPU with the printer, and the other connect monitor with the projector. Given below are some of the important tips to organize and de-clutter these wires.
Remove all the unnecessary items from your office desk. Keep the desk clean and organized in order to increase the workspace. Use plastic caddies to store pen, pencil, stapler and other official supplies. Use closet organizers or shelf to store important papers and files. Also, use paper trays to store the papers within easy reach. This will not only make your office look clean and tidy but also increase the overall workspace in your office.
Labeling the wires in a clean and bold manner is important so that they can be identified during emergency. To label the wires, you may use wire markers or label makers. They are available in different forms and colors, thus helping you identify the wires fast.
