As human beings, we are faced with daily doses of challenges that stream from the basics of our home to the bustling environment in the workplace and even during some instances in between. And so, it’s understandable that we feel so down and unmotivated at times.

Just the thought of city traffic is enough to leave us sluggish for the rest of the day. Imagining the number of people we have to deal with every day (ugh) could easily tune us out of the bright day ahead. How many times have we ditched off the to-do list just because? It’s unsettling most of the time, but then again, we go for the slump.

There are countless reasons why we couldn’t just muster that energy and go for the gold. It could be out of bad habit, or the lack of unwillingness; a messy workspace, too much social media. Whatever that is, there is always the pseudoscience of Feng Shui to give us room tips for motivation, and finally get us hustling and grinding.

Chinese or not, some time in our lives and up to the present, we believe that if we heed to some of the Chinese principles of Feng Shui, positive energies will come rushing in our lives. But first off, let’s formally get to know what Feng Shui is and find out why a lot of us take this Chinese culture so seriously.

According to Google’s dictionary, Feng Shui is a Chinese thought system of laws that govern the flow and movement of energy within a space. Purposefully, its principles aim to achieve a balance between man and nature. Moreover, it also maximizes the potential success in other key areas of our lives. These aspects are represented in the pa kua – fame, love and marriage, creativity, helpful people, career, spiritual growth, health, and money. In short, Feng Shui means “wind water.” Wind spreads the positive energy, while the water holds it.

As we all know, our homes reflect who we are as occupants. Feng Shui sets itself to convey that whatever part of our house is missing or neglected or in any way possesses negative energy, then it reflects back to us. The same goes for our bedrooms. Bedrooms are our place for sleep, rest, romance – it’s basically the best place to be ourselves. And while we spend at least eight hours a day in this personal space, we might as well utilize its feng shui into full swing. So follow these simple feng shui tips on how to make your own bedroom appealing to boost your motivation.

1. Declutter

Get rid of anything unnecessary. Sort out which stuff is no longer usable. This might sound time-consuming and energy-draining, considering our hoarder nature, but it will eventually feel rewarding and therapeutic in the end. Burning of sage, palo santo or cedar will also ensure a new foundation of the bedroom’s chi (life force energy.) So don’t ever skip this step. Clear off the energy to bust through negative energy that hangs in the air.

2. Prioritize proper ventilation and light

Air and light are essential for a good chi in the bedroom. Open the windows and allow as much natural light as possible in the room. Alongside this, opt for off-white, creams, chocolate browns and peach paint tones. These colors are great to induce optimal tranquility and sensual vibes.

3. Place your bed in the “command position”

This means placing the bed in a space where one can see the entry door when lying down. According to feng shui, setting the bed on the same wall as the entry door will cause someone to feel threatened, like a surprise during the sleep. This is a quick way to develop harmony and relaxation in the four corners of the room. More importantly, feng shui suggests that the beds should always have a headboard, as these provide a feeling of support in life.

4. Get a pair for everything

Whether it’s a set of pillowcases or two similar light lamps, in feng shui, things that come in pairs stimulate loving and harmonious energy.

5. Bedrooms should be tech-free

As individuals in the digital world, it’s no wonder why wherever we turn our sights into, there’s always that somebody who’s hunched over a screen. Feng shui recommends not to bring this habit inside the bedroom. TVs, appliances, mobile phones can produce unwanted energy just about anywhere. Turning off the wifi at night is a great move too.

6. Learn about the five feng shui elements and know where to put it

Feng shui has got five interesting elements – fire, wood, earth, metal, and water. In this case, we’re aiming for motivation. To attract prosperity, introduce the room to the elements of wood and water in the southeast area of the place.

How important is it to feng shui your home? Perhaps, a lot of you would wonder and ask. Some of you think that feng shui is a Chinese believe where you can have good luck at home. But there is more to feng shui than what you think it is. The effect for feng shui for houses is most fascinating. It brings prosperity, wealth, and it helps you succeed in your endeavors. Even a fortune teller would suggest having a feng shui friendly home.

A home with a good feng shui is said to have a smooth, strong and clear energy flowing through it. To achieve this, your home should have a feng shui friendly decor – from colors, furniture, and the things found in your home. To give you some ideas, we list down some tips on how you can achieve the right energy for your home.

Feng Shui Friendly Home

1. Do a space clearing

First things first, do a space clearing. It is one way to retain the energetic imprint of those that inhabit your home. Moreover, clearing off the mess you have at home helps burn off the old energy to welcome fresh and new “chi.” Feng shui experts suggest these methods of clearing your space: burn palo santo, smudged with white sage or spraying natural orange essential oil with water. Palo santo is light and ideal for everyday use. The white sage is heavier, it is usually used for heavy-duty space clearing. While the orange oil is great for uplifting your mood,

2. Clean all windows

This does not mean you have dirty and dusty windows, which is why you need to clean it. In feng shui, your windows symbolize your eyes to the world. It allows you to see and experience everything that the world has to offer to you. Experts suggest that homeowners should find an old newspaper, grab a bottle of vinegar and water, and clean away the dirt.

3. Cover up the TV in your bedroom

Some of us have televisions in their bedroom. However, do you know that TV, gadgets and other electronics make you have trouble in sleeping? Feng shui experts suggest that allowing good energy to enter your room would also mean covering up the TV and other appliances. Since these appliances have an active energy as well as the electronic aspect of it, this can cause you to stay active at night. However, doing such makes sure that these things cannot disrupt the calming quiet energy in your bedroom.

4. Be mindful of your bed

Your bed is one of the most important furniture at home since it is where you spend many passive hours sleeping. Feng shui experts suggest your bed in the “commanding position.” And to place you’re be in such position, your bed should be facing the door while not in line with the door while lying in bed. You can also put you bed diagonally across the room from your bedroom door. However, if these locations may not be applicable on your bedroom, then find standing mirror for you to see the door while lying in bed.

5. Keep your bathroom door closed

Your bathroom is also one of the sources of good energy since it has water on it. And in feng shui, water symbolizes wealth. Experts suggest that you need to close your bathroom always for as not to flush the money or wealth away. Not just with your bathroom door, but you also have to close the toilet seat cover to reduce the effect.

6. Plants above the kitchen cabinets

Your kitchen cabinets play a big role when it comes to inviting the good energy. Take a look at your kitchen cabinets and check if they are built up with the ceiling or a soffit. To create a good energy, there should be no space above the upper kitchen cabinets. Having plants above the kitchen cabinets is helpful since it brings life to space and transforms the energy. However, if you leave these areas above, this attracts dust and stagnant energy. The “chi” gets stuck there and encourages dead energy which may hold you back in life.

7. Use your front door

If you have a garage at home where you can enter your home from there, try not to use your back door. In feng shui perspective, entering your home from the back door may limit good energy and opportunities in your life since the entryway or front door represents how “chi” enters your home and life.

8. Fix your squeaks

Doors that squeak or whine whenever you open or close it should be fixed. The squeaking sound is as if the door is crying and this can affect your mood and well-being. If you think your doors already make a noise, do not delay and fix the squeaks.

Creating a feng shui friendly home is not that hard as you think it is. You just have to make sure that you know what and what not to do when it comes to inviting the “chi” or good energy in your home.
