There are many different ways to get rid of roaches, but the best way to get rid of roaches is to do it yourself. Roaches can be a real problem in a home because if you don’t remove them from your home, they will infest other parts of your home. Roaches can easily travel around your house and infest other areas of your house, creating a huge problem. This is why getting rid of roaches is so important because if you don’t get rid of them, they will spread around your entire house. In order to do this, you need to use some effective pest control techniques.

  • One of the best methods of pest control is liquid concentrates. Roaches live on dead skin, so applying a concentrated liquid that contains boric acid can kill off all the roaches in your home with one application. It is extremely toxic, so if you are using boric acid liquids, make sure you wear eye protection and gloves. It can also be dangerous if the concentration is not properly applied, so make sure you read the instructions carefully. Boric acid liquids are available in many different applications. Some people use liquid concentrates to get rid of roaches in their bathtub, while others use the concentrated solution on their doors.
  • You can also use boric acid liquids or bait to get rid of roaches in other areas of your home. If you have a wide-open crawl space, putting glue strips down the opening of the crawl space will keep the roaches that come through the holes at night out. You can also place glue strips around your outside lights and feeders. This will keep roaches from getting into the outside light and food you place in the feeder.
  • The best way to get rid of roaches if you want to keep your house free of them is to use pesticides. This can be dangerous for children, so you should always consult with a poison control expert before you spray pesticides or paint roaches. It is also illegal to spray pesticides indoors, so you should never try this method. However, if you are trying to eliminate a large number of roaches in your house, there is no other way to do it other than using a pesticide.
  • Some people like to use bait to get rid of roaches. This is effective if you select the correct bait, which attracts roaches and kills them within a few days. For example, dried eggshells attract roaches, so you might want to get rid of the roaches in your house by placing dried eggshells down in dark areas where the roaches can find them. If you want to make your own bait, you can use cheese, sugar, vinegar, and other ingredients found in any kitchen. These ingredients are more likely to work as bait than dried eggshells, so it might be a good idea to make your own roach bait if you have a difficult time getting the eggs out of the eggs.

Roaches are a big problem for many people. They are annoying and pesky and they don’t make nice guests in the house. If you want to get rid of roaches, using any of the best ways to get rid of roaches is the best choice for you. While there are other methods you can use, none of them is as effective at killing roaches as roach sprays. If you think you might want to use other methods in addition to roach sprays, be sure to consult a poison control expert first.

How to get rid of rats in house… Rats are a bane to earth and if left untended, they can grow in great numbers and become very difficult to get rid of. The best plan of action against rats is to keep them away from your home. The following article discusses the four best ways to combat rat infestation.

How to Keep Rats Away From Your Home

Here are four ways you can take to get rats out of your house:

1. Food Waste Management

Food is the primary reason why rats are attracted to your home. In order to prevent rats from getting to your food, you need to do two things. Store all your food in airtight containers as this will prevent rats from being able to smell and track down the location of the food. If they cannot smell the food in your home, there is no reason for them to enter your home. The second thing you can do is to make sure that you do not leave any food outside overnight. Be sure to take out the trash every night. This is not limited to only cleaning your kitchen, but also being sure to empty out and clean your pet’s food bowl. Be sure to get rid of any fruit or vegetable waste from your garden.

2. Gaps and Holes

Gaps and holes are the perfect entry points for rats. Holes on walls, vents, and plumbing act as entrance routes for rats. In order to keep rats from entering your home using gaps and holes, you first need to find the gaps and holes around your home and stuff them with either steel or copper wool.

Rats have strong teeth and are capable of chewing their way through anything, however, they are not able to chew through steel or copper wool. The reason for this is that steel and copper wool get stuck in the teeth of rats which prevents them from chewing any further. Therefore, placing steel and copper wool in the gaps and holes of your homes will prevent rats from entering.

3. Rat repelling plants

There are certain plants that have rat repelling properties. If you keep these plants at your home or garden, you witness minimal to none rat activity. Here are a few plants which you could keep at your home or garden: rosemary, peppermint, lavender, onions, garlic, sage, cayenne, black pepper, and tomatoes. Some of these plants also come with culinary benefits. The flavors and smell produced by these plants are effective at keeping mice away, even the roots of these plants have rat repelling properties. Using plants to repel rats is an eco-friendly solution to all your rat problems.

4. Mica Rodent Spray by MDX Concepts

The Mica Rodent Spray by MDX Concepts is a natural rodent repellent. The spray comprises of essential oils obtained from plants having rat repelling properties. Most rodenticides rely on chemicals and thus, are toxic in nature. Due to their high toxicity levels, they can harm them greatly, and in some cases, it could seven spell their death.

The Mica Rodent Spray is 100% natural as it uses essential oils to get the job done. Thus, it is both a kid-safe and pet-safe form of rodent control. You can also spray your plants to keep rats away from them as it is an eco-friendly product.

Being near lizards, earwigs, centipedes and the much dreaded cockroaches can feel pretty gross. Just imagine if these pests started staying with you in your home. Having food in your house while they crawl around the floor is pretty disgusting. These pests can occupy almost every corner of your house and can increase their number from a few to hundreds in a matter of weeks. Having these dirty pests in your house is not sickening but also poses great danger to your health and hygiene. Many insects are even poisonous and cause a variety of diseases. Small children should be especially kept away from them.

Getting rid of them as fast as possible should be your main agenda. You can call pest control services to help you get rid of these dangerous creatures from your house. But you will see that their method works only for a limited period of time. They also charge a lot of money for their services. After a certain while the pests return, to which you can either choose to call the pest controllers again or make the wise choice of resorting to some natural and traditional ways to keep you home free of pests.

Ants

If you find the point of entry of the ants, put some thinly cut slices of cucumber there. As ants instinctively avoid the smell of cucumbers they will no longer be a problem.

You can use mint tea bags or crushed mint leaves to prevent the entry of ants to your house.

If you have a major ant infestation, then you should make a mixture of a teaspoon of borax, a cup of sugar and a liter of water. Dip a few cotton balls in this solution and then place them in those places where ants will have easy access to them. This will act as bait and the ants will carry them to their colony. On eating these ants will die. The smell will cause the ants in the colony to die.

Cockroaches

The best way to keep your house free of cockroaches is to keep your house clean at all times. Use a strong soap solution to clean your house and the number of cockroaches will drastically reduce.

Cockroaches like living in high places. So you should put boric power on top of your cabinets in the kitchen. Also put the powder in the space between the cabinet and ceiling. Once they taste the powder they will get infected and then they return to their nest they will infect the other cockroaches too thereby killing all of them.

Mosquitoes

  • Don’t keep standing water in your house as it is a great breeding point for mosquitoes.
  • A dilute solution of garlic can be used to repel mosquitoes from biting you.
  • Pest control companies might not tell you, but the marigold plant and Thai lemon grass is really effective for keeping mosquitoes away from your house.
  • Neem oil has a lot of health benefits and other than that it can also be used to prevent mosquitoes from biting you.

There’s no way you can stop all bugs from entering your house. What you can do is make their access to your home harder and kill the habitat of insects you find in it. Spiders, flies, mosquitoes and other smaller insects always find a way to crawl inside our homes. If you spend some time doing the home improvements presented here, you can stop the access of most bugs to your home to some extend and protect it from them and the diseases they inflict. Here is what you can do to prevent top bugs that might crawl into your house from doing so.

You can install screens on all doors and windows in your home. If you don’t have door screens install them. If you have some damaged window screen, replace it with new or repair it if it is possible. Choose fine mesh screens for capturing even the tiniest bugs, trying to enter your home.

The main rule is if air and light can penetrate in your home, bugs can too. What you can do to stop them is seal around the doors in your house. Install tight-fitted doorsteps, apply door seals, which will fill all gaps on the top and the sides of each door. Seal all cracks in the exterior walls, home’s foundation and fascia boards. The cracks a perfect place for all bugs to hide.

Most of the insects need humidity to survive. To keep your home safe from bugs that might crawl, attracted by moist places, fix all leaks in your plumbing systems, even if they may seem insignificant to you. Check your basement, pipes for leaks and fix them. Install dehumidifiers in the kitchen and bathroom, where most moisture is created.

Keep your kitchen clean, where food particles and drink spills can attract cockroaches and all kinds of other bugs. Remove food and drink stains immediately as they appear, sweep the floor regularly. Wash the dishes after every meal, provide well cleaning of your microwave, toaster and the top of your stove, which gather food that attract all kinds of insects. Throw away the rubbish regularly. These cleaning procedures done in time can save you from many pests is said by Fulham TenancyCleaning.

Store your food products like rice, cereals, grains and others tightly sealed in containers. Opened containers keep in your fridge. They are food for many bugs and can easily attract them in your home. Insects like places to hide so a cluttered home is their home too. You need to get rid of papers and recycle materials and boxes you don’t need. A messy and overcrowded home is the perfect place for most bugs to hide and live undisturbed.

If you have a pet clean after it regularly, because some bugs like dog’s and cat’s food, while other prefer their wastes. Clean your home from food left from you pet’s meal and remove the litter regularly. Keep your pet’s food dry, tightly sealed in boxes with covers.

Smells from the garbage can can attract insects very easily. They have more developed sense of smell and the rule is if you can smell it, you should throw it away immediately. Keep your rubbish in cans with plastic bags and tie them well before throwing away.

Keep your home as clean as possible to avoid bugs from crawling in your house. Regular and well cleaning, sealing and maintaining of your home will make it safe from many pests attacks. Use special preparations for killing bugs. Keep your home clean, tidy and rid of clutter, solve all your plumbing problems and leaks that you have. The sooner you do it the better.

It has only been a couple of months since England’s vast forests were reported to be still at the mercy of the effects of the scorching summer heat of 1976. Since then, scientists discovered that the growth rate of trees went through a huge reduction for over 30 years. It was only recently that trees in British soil were able to experience a climate conducive for growth.

Unfortunately, British trees face another great predicament with the increasing number of exotic pests surfacing within the country. With the current condition of British trees still undergoing recovery from its previous climate ordeal, these exotic pests definitely have the upper hand.

Since scientists have already predicted that the threshold of nutrition has not yet been reached even after the major drought mentioned above. However, with the presence of these exotic pests, it is only a matter of time before the said threshold will not only be reached but surpassed.

Was it a product of man or an event of nature?

As trade and tourism continues to flourish in British boundaries, the need for environmental development to meet these aspects opened an unexpected window of disaster. With various beautification and experimental projects being launched in Britain, many exotic trees were imported to achieve the desired appeal and criteria.

One of activities that gave the biggest opening for these exotic pests to enter Britain is the use of rush landscaping to get the job done within the shortest possible time. This has been mostly applied for infrastructural projects of roads, new business establishments, as well as public recreational places such as parks.

Since an instant landscape would need instant real trees to complete the picture, the purchase of trees from other countries that can meet the demand had to be done. Although trees that were imported went through pest control and inspection, unfortunately, eggs were already laid by various pests on different parts of some trees.

Homing in on the pest carriers

Among these exotic trees are discussed below along with their respective causative occurrences and pests which lead to this predicament of nature:

  1. Broad-leaved trees, as well as other trees of the Quercus species which came from London and California, was found to be part of the main causes behind this plague of exotic pests in Britain. After thorough tests on the number of causative agents as well as the areas affected, Ramorum was found in huge numbers from the above-mentioned trees.
  2. Oak trees coming from Europe have been found to be among the top carriers. After scientists tested these trees, a huge number of Oak processionary moth eggs have been found to be carefully burrowed among the angles of leaves and branches. This became so because Oak trees posted as one of the most highly sought trees for landscaping, especially parks and other outdoor recreational facilities.
  3. American red oaks and European beech were also found to have high P. Ramorum after tests have been conducted.

The current action taken

Although the plague of these exotic pests on British trees continues until this day, the Forestry Commission Plant Health Service along with other concerned organizations has focused their efforts on determining other major sources and carriers of these exotic pests. From this data, they would be able to prevent the continued entry and increase of exotic pests into the country, especially those that are highly destructive to plant-life in Britain.

This action has been tailored from the means used to counter a similar problem that occurred in the United States. Unfortunately, the task at hand has been projected to be more difficult due to the current number of species of exotic pests that have been discovered. In addition, strong preventive measures have already been taken for before these pests start plaguing man as well.

Bed Bug Myths Busted

First things first, we need to get our bug facts straight and when it comes to bedbugs; there are many myths about bed bugs that are not so true.

  1. Bed bugs can bite and can be seen at any time of the day not just at night.
  2. Despite their infamous name, they don’t just live under or around your beds but can be seen in equally invasive numbers in any upholstery. They can just settle down anywhere where there is warmth and darkness.

Bedbug Red Flags

But before they just show their might through their bites, keep a check on other red flags to get rid of them before they grow in numbers. Most common infestation sign would be their spotting, excretions and eggs.

According to entomologists, bed bug waste in the form of dark brown spots on your beddings or their brown skin which they shed upon maturing. If they are there, they might have started reproducing too so look out for their eggs under your beds, box springs and corners of your upholstery.

Prevent Infestation

They just love tagging along without any invitation. One female bed bug can lay 5 eggs a day, so imagine you bring two within your luggage and then you know they can wreak havoc. Keep an eye on the red flags and consult a pest control professional to treat them.

These significantly tiny pests have been the biggest of concerns for many households. Despite their size, they can be particularly irritating and can leave you all itchy during any time of day. A good rule of thumb to deal with a bed bug infestation is treat them, as soon as you see them.

It’s really nice to have your own place. But this doesn’t come without challenges. One of the greatest challenges that face homeowners everywhere is keeping pests away. There are so many different pests that can easily attack and infest a vulnerable house. Termites, ants, cockroaches, mice, and rats are just a few examples. So, how do you get rid of these pesky bugs?

There are so many methods that you can use if you want to get rid of pests that may be inside or outside your home. The important thing is to make sure that the method you’re using is effective to the specific pest that you’re targeting. Furthermore, there are concerns regarding the safety of several forms of insecticides, as well as rodenticides.

Therefore, always read and follow instructions about how to use certain products. If you want to try safer ways, then there are also several techniques or substances that you can try, such as diatomaceous earth, baking soda, as well as boric acid. Try essential oils as well.

Although fragrant oils are generally not used in treating severe pest infestations, these concentrated oils are safer and more Earth-friendly, and these can be used to prevent several pests from plaguing your home. However, always know what safety precautions to take before using concentrated oils. Keep in mind that oils could also be detrimental to other beneficial bugs and even your cats or dogs.

How Do Essential Oils Work?

Bugs use their senses to survive. Anything that negatively affects their primary senses can contribute to their demise. As for essential oils, there are several substances that are detrimental to insects’ bodily systems. Some oils negatively affect the nervous system, while others have an effect on the reproductive, physical, as well as mental capabilities of insects.

Essential Oils

Termites

Termites are repelled by certain scents, like cedarwood, garlic, and tea tree oils. Some oils also kill termites once they come in contact with them or once termites get a whiff of the vapors coming from highly concentrated oils. One of the most effective and long lasting oils used against termites is vetiver oil. Clove bud oil and orange oil are also toxic to termites.

Ants

If you want ants to scurry to the opposite direction, squirt diluted peppermint essential oil on known ant trails. Spearmint, tansy, citronella and cinnamon are repulsive to ants as well. You can do some research about mixtures or blends that you can create using these oils.

Roaches

Cedarwood and cinnamon bark essential oils easily keep roaches away. They don’t like the smell of the following oils too: citronella, citrus hystrix (kaffir lime), peppermint, cypress, and lemongrass oils. You can burn oils, or make blends that you can readily spray on roaches or in places where these bugs abound.

Mice and Rats

Minty aromas easily keep rodents away. So, try using peppermint and spearmint essential oils. Pennyroyal, vetiver, patchouli and sandalwood can also be used to repel mice and rats. You can burn oils on burners, or soak cotton balls with your chosen oil and place these in crevices or holes where rodents are known to pass through.

“Help! I can’t get rid of these bed bugs!”

Many homeowners these days deal with bed bug problems. A few years back, bed bugs weren’t very threatening. In fact, there were little to no news about these vampiric bugs. Today, with the frequency of domestic and international travel, bed bugs now hop from bed to bed or bed to luggage.

Once these blood sucking bugs get inside your luggage, you could bring them with you to your home. Thus, it’s now so very easy for these insects to go from one state to another, and even from one country to another.

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are from an insect family known as Cimicidae. Adults are flat and brownish. But after feeding, they become rounder and bigger. Bugs that have that brown-reddish glow are the ones that have just fed on blood to their hearts’ content, and they could be as big as apple seeds. Nymphs, on the other hand, are paler or more golden in color.

Why Eliminate Bed Bugs?

One reason why people hate bed bugs is that they feed on blood. So, a bug will bite and suck your blood until it is full. The bite of the bed bug is not painful because it releases an anesthetic. It also injects an anticoagulant so that blood won’t clot easily.

Beg bug bites are not medical emergencies as these are just, more or less, itchy or irritating. But bites could be dangerous to a person who is very sensitive to foreign elements. People who experience breathing difficulties, fainting and other serious symptoms after being bitten by bed bugs should be brought to a hospital right away.

Effective Methods Used against Bed Bugs

1. Heat or Steam

Bed bugs die when exposed to intense heat. So, one way of killing these critters is by steaming an infested bed or any item, like a sofa, cushion, or even clothing. The heat will kill adults, nymphs, as well as eggs. For clothes, the most effective way is to wash clothes and put them in the dryer. A temperature of 120 degrees Fahrenheit is recommended. Furthermore, it is best to use heat or steam first because high temperatures may affect the effectiveness of other treatments.

2. Plastic or Zippered Mattress Covers

A mattress overrun with bed bugs can be tightly wrapped in a plastic or zippered cover so as to suffocate the critters. Keep in mind that mattress covers must be left on for a long time, maybe a year or more. The reason for this is that adult bugs that have just fed could subsist for a year or more without feeding again.

3. Diatomaceous Earth

DE is a fine powder that is often used in filtering materials. It is not toxic to humans and pets. However, it is harmful to bed bugs because it sticks to the harder outer layer of these insects, causing their covers to crack and break down. This then causes dehydration and death.

You should be careful when using DE because the powder can be inhaled. Once inhaled, particles can easily stick to the lungs. So, always use gloves and a mask when applying DE.

To apply, sprinkle DE on the surface and lightly pat to encourage the fine powder to get into the mattress. As mentioned, use protective gear. Then, dust some DE on the bed frame, the corners of the mattress and frame, as well as carpets, and other furniture.

Most people cringe at the sight of critters or pests in their home – no matter how big or small. It’s a visceral reaction – even if they aren’t crawling on your person, seeing bugs in your home feels like being invaded. Although the insects themselves are only flocking to where they can fulfill their needs (such as ideal temperature, food source, or source of water) modern humans don’t wish to share their living spaces with such pests.

Even if they are not trying to suck your blood or impale you with a stinger, pests can bring many dangers with them when they come into your home.

Here are some examples of what certain pests can bring into your home, as well as your immune system.

Pest Free

1. Germs and Pathogens

If they secrete saliva, leave waste, or come in from outside, any pest can bring unwanted risks. You cannot tell them to wash their hands, they don’t bathe or use hand sanitizer. It also does not help that most of the time; you do not even know they are there. Touching the same surfaces that a pathogen-riddled pest has defecated on can spread the disease to you, as well as your family.

2. West Nile Virus

Mosquitoes are predators – no more and no less. They don’t do any tasks of value like bees -they bring only misery to humans, and occasionally share much more than itchy, red bumps. Sometimes they transmit serious illnesses, such as West Nile Virus or malaria. The 2012 outbreak has been the largest ever seen in the U.S.,which proves that without exaggeration, mosquitoes can cause serious health issues.

Although it’s almost common to hear about West Nile Virus outbreaks, most cases are mild and only give the sufferer a low-grade fever, and flu-like symptoms such as headaches and body pains. West Nile Virus can, in severe cases, cause death. You should seek immediate medical attention if you notice that you’re feeling excessively and progressively weak, experiencing a high fever and a bad headache, or severe body aches and pains.

3. Itchy Bites

Any critter that lives off blood can cause allergic reactions from bites, plus unsightly itching and rashes. The only good news is bed bugs have not been associated with disease transmission, but they can cause you sleepiness nights, and a world of worry and stress – which is not good for you either.

Bed bug infestations happen very quickly once started, and can be a nightmare to remove. Bed bug problems have become much more prevalent in the past few years and not just in beds. They can be found in movie theaters, schools, offices, and hotels. It is important to know why bed bugs are drawn to us and what implications these blood-suckers pests have on us.

As with any lasting pest removal, if you understand what they like and where bed bugs come from, you can do a much better job of keeping them away – not just dealing with outbreak after outbreak.

4. Tapeworm

Fleas are an itchy annoyance, but removing an infestation can be difficult. Most of these tasks center on proper pet care. Any pets that go outdoors needs flea protection. In severe cases of flea infestation, they can cause severe skin issues for your pet, and can even be a host for tapeworms.

5. Lyme Disease

Carried by certain strains of ticks, Lyme disease can be a serious health threat. Avoiding ticks altogether is the best way to prevent their potentially harmful bites. How can you avoid tick exposure? When spending significant time outside, the more skin you have covered, the better. Clothing is quite an effective barrier between these parasites and your skin.Long sleeve shirts, long pants, and closed-toe shoes are ideal. Also try to avoid walking through tall grass, and take precaution outdoors when in areas that are likely to have ticks.

There are a myriad of repellant sprays that offer good protection against ticks, but their application comes with risks when applied to exposed skin and clothing. The most prevalent insect repellants contain DEET. It has been in use for more than 50 years and is recommended for use with anyone over 2 months of age. The alternative is picaridin and is also effective against mosquitoes, ticks, and sand flies.

In order to successfully transmit illness, ticks need to feed for a significant length of time (in many cases, hours.)This makes it important to do a full body tick check after spending time outdoors, especially at hairlines, underarms – they are small and crafty and find warm places to hide.

6. Property Damage

Termites never stop eating. They travel in very large groups, and they eat 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, meaning damage to wood in your home can happen very quickly. Termites cause billions of dollars in damage each year, often silently eating your largest investment without you knowing about it until there are significant problems.Although you cannot manage termites on your own, pest control professionals can eliminate a termite infestation with a good treatment plan and you can remain pest free once your damage is repaired.

7. Limit the Enjoyment of Your Garden and Yard

Rodents and critters can leave you wanting to stay inside. Who likes ruined vegetables, rats running where your kids play, or being bit by a begging squirrel when you are having a picnic?Humans tend to actively prevent rodents like mice from entering their homes, but even other common backyard wildlife, such as squirrels, birds, skunks, bats and raccoons can cause significant risks to both our health and our properties.

Even the birds can bring illness with them, as carriers of West Nile virus, Lyme disease, and respiratory illness histoplasmosis. Rabies can be spread by common backyard critters, such as raccoons, squirrels, skunks, and bats. Contact with an animal who may have rabies should be treated very seriously, as the disease can is potentially fatal if not treated properly.

8. Anxiety

Dealing with all these issues can be an emotionally trying experience. There can also be stigma attached with negative reactions from friends and neighbors. Even just the fear of infestations, germs, illnesses and bites can lead to emotional distress.

So calm yourself with good information and the good care of pest control professionals when you need it – and everyone and everything in your home will be the better for it.
