What is Pest Fumigation?
Fumigation is one the most effective pest control management system, if your house is deeply infested. In simple layman terms, fumigation involves releasing toxic chemical gaseous insecticides in order to eliminate all possible pests and insects.
How Pest Fumigation Works?
You can either get the fumigation pest control done by experts or you can take the matter in your own hands. However, as it requires dealing with poisonous gases, it is quite practical to get it done professionally, through experts who have thorough knowledge about different pests, chemicals and precautionary measures.
Pre Fumigation Stage
Follow the instructions given by the fumigation or exterminator company to the T. If you have specific concerns, then don’t be afraid to ask to prevent missing out on anything important. It usually involves sealing clothes, food, medicines and other small personal items like cosmetics/toiletries in a proper bag. Typically, the company provides special bags for this purpose. If you can move your medicines and food somewhere else, then that’s good or else make sure to seal them properly. Inform your neighbors so that they can take precautionary measures as well to avoid coming in contact with harmful chemicals. Other set of instructions you may receive is moving away your car, keeping all the doors and cabinets unlocked, removing all valuables and informing your gas company.
Actual Fumigation Stage
The process starts with covering the entire area to be fumigated by the pest control company. Usually a plastic tent is placed on top of the property so that poisonous gases are not released outside and no untoward incident happens. Alternately, the edges can be sealed too, if the area of operation or is shared by many dwellers like in the case of building apartments where it is not possible to cover the entire building for one flat. In such instances the entire house is pumped with extremely strong chemical pesticides. Inhabitants are usually advised to stay away for at least 15-30 hours before re-entering the house.
Post Fumigation Stage
Open all the door and windows to start the air flow. Clean the complete area meticulously. This involves wiping all furniture, sweeping and scrubbing floors and washing curtains, sheets. Basically cleaning every piece of tool and fabric exposed to the noxious gases. Discard all medicines and food items that were left unsealed. Discard cloth used to wipe and clean the area.
Given the nature of this process, the results are also satisfactory and provide a long term relief from pests, contrary to a quick fix. With proper care and approach, the method is safe to use and implement. Seek medical help immediately if you feel nausea or suffer from headaches, coughing, breathing difficulties, fatigue, double vision and dizziness, post fumigation.
